Page Description
Use the Authentication Methods Setup page to test and edit which authentication methods should be used to try to authenticate a user signing into Copia on the Authentication Setup page.
If several are defined, then each will be attempted in the specified order until one succeeds or they all fail. Three methods exist: "Basic Copia," Active Directory," and "LDAP." "Basic Copia" is what has always existed; it has no specific configuration. It will take the user name and password and check it against the user table to find a matching user name and password. If one is found, that user is logged in. "Active Directory" and "LDAP" both take the user name and password and allow the authentication server to determine if the credentials are correct. If they are, then the user in Copia with the same user name is logged in. The Copia password has no affect in this case, but the user name must match the user name used to sign in and authenticate. If there is no user name match in Copia, then that user will not be logged in. The "Active Directory" method also has no specific configuration. It auto-discovers the server using Windows ADSI API via COM commands. The "LDAP" method has configuration for domain and server. The server field accepts the IP or the computer name and allows a custom port number if different from the default.

Configure Authentication Methods
Note that the "Enforce password minimum character requirements" on the System Defaults page only applies to Basic Copia authentication passwords. The locking of an account after a number of failed logins works no matter which authentication methods are configured. The "Expire passwords" feature (including notification) will only function if Basic Copia is defined as an authentication method.
